Leading transformations: Manage change | Online Course Support

An awareness of our many cultural images of change shows us: Select only one (1) response.

Yes! While there are multiple images of change, the default position of many individuals and organisations is to fall back onto more or less sophisticated forms of the Rational story. They assume a two-stage process and instruct others how to act. If we are not careful, we may interpret ‘transition’, ‘agile and adaptive’ and ‘resilience’ stories as variants of the Rational story, rather than alternatives or challenges to it. This would involve, for example, instructing people how to act in a staged transition, imposing ‘one best way’ of being agile and adaptive as a certain solution to managing turbulence, and viewing resilience as mere persistence in imposing a known solution on irrational resistors.
