Yes! It is useful, for all the reasons we have outlined. In particular, it provides us with a memorable concrete image of an organisation. It captures the idea that organisations are systemic in nature. The formal structures and processes are immediately apparent yet only a small part of the overall organisation and the factors influencing how it changes. It also warns us of the dangers of mistaking the tip for the whole! It is, however, still partial, as we emphasise.
